BR 2-16: Machines Then and Now

About two million years ago people made stone axes with wooden handles. (P.4)

This time, I’m going to introduce everybody a book about machines. What machines do you use best every day? I use a Smart Phone best every day. Today our life depends on a lot of machines. I want to introduce everybody about histories of machines and now. One is Ramp. It is essential for our everyday life. The Ancient Egyptians used ramps to build pyramids more than 5,000 years ago. The Great Pyramid is 138 meters high and it is the biggest in the world. Two is Crane. The Ancient Greeks used big crane made of wood to build temples. They tried a rope to a block of stone. Three is Windmills. Windmills use energy from the wind. Hundreds of years ago people started using windmills to make flour. Today we use windmills to make electricity. Speaking of windmills, I imagine Holland. There is famous for windmill and turip. I have often watched them in TV and magazines but I want to see them firsthand. Four is Flying Machine. Do you like riding plane? I like it so much. Today we can fly all over the world by plane, but 200 years ago planes didin’t exist. In 1903 Wright brother invented the first plane made of wood and carried one person. The first flight only lasted for 12 seconds. Four years later a French inventor flew one of the first helicopters. He stayed in the air for about 20 seconds. I thought how deadful inventors experimented staying in the air. If the experiments would be unsuccessful, perhaps they fallen from the machine and died. It was the experiments of life and death. Five is television. What programs do you watch in TV every day? If there isn’t television in our life, a kind of our amusements lose. The first television only showed black and white images in 1926. Then 18 years later, inventors made a television that showed images in color. Today we can also watch DVDs and play a lot of games in TV and some modern televisions can be almost as thin as paper. How do you think that our life depends on a lot of machines? It is very comfortable, speedy, and interesting. Machines will develop and help our life in the future. But I think that look back upon and appreciate a lot of inventors who did the experiments of life and death. Thank you for reading!

BR 2-15: All About Plants

Scientists don’t know how many plants there are, but they think that there are more than 300,000 types! (P.4)

This time, I’m going to introduce everybody a book about plants. There are more than 300,000 types of plants in the world but scientists think that there are more plants that we don’t know about yet. Do you know that the first plants grew in the water more than two billion years ago? It took hundreds of million of years for plants to change and to grow on the ground. What seasons do you like the best? Now season is fall, and autumn colors of plants is very beautiful. The leaves change to yellow, orange, or red. And in winter, there are no leaves on most trees. In summer, plants make lots of food because there is lots of sunlight. And different plants have different habitats. Some plants need sun, and other plants need shade. Most plants can’t grow in very dry, cold, or wet places. But the cactus can grow in hot, dry places like deserts. Its roots are near the top of the ground so it can take in water quickly. There are many people who take cactus plants as a potted plant with beautiful leaves in houses. I want to try it after I read this book. Next, I want to introduce everybody two amazing plants. One is a Venus Flytrap. Most plants don’t need to eat insects, but the Venus Flytrap eats insects. Two is a Titan Arum. It is one of the smelliest plants in the world. Moreover it smells like bad meat so that the Titan Arum is the terrible smell. But I want to try smelling it.
Lastly, we have to save our plants. Our clothes, books, and many other things come from plants. Lots of our doors, chairs, and tables are made of wood. Sometimes there is plant plastic in our cell phones, computers, or even our socks. In the rainforest, people cut down trees, and Earth loses hundreds of different types of plant forever. As a result, pollution is another danger and it puts dangerous chemicals into the soil and these are bad for plants. We have to use paper carefully and use all the paper and recycle it. We have to struggle them in our life every day. Thank you for reading!

BR 2-14: Wonders of the past

Today, many tourists visit this amazing place. (P.13)

This time, I’m going to introduce everybody a book about some world heritages and histories. Have you ever gone to some world heritages? What world heritages do you want to see? I want to introduce everybody four wonders from this book.
One is Tutankhamun. Tutankhamun is known all over the world. But why is he so famous? He was a king in Egypt more than 3,300 years ago. When he died only 19 years old, people put a gold mask over his face and his face and put all three coffins in a tomb with food and many treasures. However no one discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb for a long time, then British archaeologist discovered it in 1922. There were about 3,500 treasures such as gold statues, boats, jewels, toys, masks, and even a gold bed. Tutankhamun became one of the most famous kings in the world.
Two is the Colosseum in Rome. Ancient Romans watched fights with gladiators and wild animals like lions, crocodiles, rhinos, and even elephants in this big and beautiful stadium. About 500,000 people and one million wild animals died there. I thought that Ancient Romans were so cruel after I read. The Colosseum was the most fantastic building and big enough for more than 50,000 people.
Three is Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Angkor Wat is a beautiful stone temple and was built about 800 years ago. About 50,000 people built the temple, and it took more than 37 years. They built it to look like the mountain where their gods lived. When people built Angkor Wat, they put water around the building to protect themselves from enemies and wild animals from the rainforest.
Lastly, four is the Taj mahal in India. It looks like a palace, but it’s one of the most beautiful tombs in the world. The Taj Mahal was built by about 20,000 people 400 years ago, and it took 22 years. There are gardens and fountains around the tomb where is made of 28 types of stone and jewels.
I want to visit the Colosseum more than anything else. I often watch it in TV but I want to watch it firsthand in Rome someday. What wonders do you feel in your body? Surely, I will change my view of the world if I can see some world heritages. Thank you for reading!

BR 2-13: Wonderful Water

People, animals, and plants need water. (P.23)

This time, I’m going to introduce everybody a book about water. About 70 percent of Earth is covered with water and about 3 percent of the water on Earth is fresh water. Do you know fresh water? Most of it is frozen from ice. Some of the fresh water is in lakes and rivers. Some of the fresh water is in the sky. It’s the clouds and the rain. Do you feel mysterious that water is in the sky? I feel so mysterious this fact and the clouds are made in water.
Next, the human body contains lots of water. Our body is about 70 percent water, our brain is about 85 percent water, and our bones are about 33 percent water. Have you ever known this fact? It is not too much to say that we are made of water. I realized once again that water is very important for the human body. We can live for four weeks without foods, but we can’t live without water. And we have to drink about eight glasses of water every day. Do you drink a suitable amount of water every day? I have heard that the human body becomes easy to lose weight if it drinks a lot of water. And our blood is about 50 percent water.
Lastly, people, animals, and plants need water. Do you know how much water we use every day? We use about 80 liters of water when we take a bath. We use about 27 liters of water when we take a shower. We drink water and cook with water and use water for washing. We need everything in the house with a lot of water. But when there is no water, rivers and lakes become dry. Plants can’t grow and animals can’t drink and die. And if there is no food and no water to drink, people die, too. And Earth could be annihilated without water. At the first, we have to save water at home. For example, turn off the water when it doesn’t use water. Take a shower, not take a bath. Collect rainwater to water plants. Don’t throw things into rivers and lakes. People have to clean water. If we don’t use water so much, it leads to water conservation. Thank you for reading!

BR 2-12: Incredible Earth

Did you know that there are mountains and valleys under the ocean? (P.6)

This time, I’m going to introduce everybody a book about Mother Earth. Are you interested in earth, nature, and a lot of natural phenomenon? I want to introduce everybody about iceberg, hot water, mountain, cave, and desert. One is iceberg. Do you know Ilulissat, near the North Pole? In passing I might mention that I haven’t ever known there before I read this book. There is one of the most incredible places on Earth-and glacier and icebergs here are very big. The glacier is about 40 kilometers long and it moves slowly about 30 meters to the Arctic Ocean every day.
Two is hot water. Do you like hot spring? Do you often go to there? Hot water and stream pour out of the ground. Suddenly, the water can’t stay under the ground and has to come out. I imagined New Zealand after I read. I have watched that New Zealanders worn bathing suits and took a natural hot spring bath in TV. In Japan, at the Jigokudani Monkey Park, when the weather is cold, monkeys take in the warm water.
Three is mountain. Do you know the biggest mountain in the world? It’s Himalayas. It began when two pieces of Earth’s crust met and moved up. Have you known this fact? I thought once again that Earth was so magnificent after I knew this fact. And the top of Mount Everest in the Himalayas is the highest place on Earth, it is getting bigger about 5 millimeters every year. Do you want to climb there? If I would climb there, maybe I die.
Four is cave. Have you ever gone to some cave? I have gone to a cave in Okinawa on a school excursion when I was the second year of junior high school. The cave was pitch-dark and very wet. Because the raindrop mix with minerals. And thousands of years ago, people lived in caves. They drew pictures on the cave walls. I often watch pictures in TV and books but I want to watch them firsthand.
Lastly, five is desert. Have you ever gone to some desert? I haven’t ever gone to there. I want to go to Bolivia in South America, there’s a desert made of salt called the Salar de Uyuni. It was a saltwater lake about 40,000 years ago, now the ground is hard and dry. The ground looks like a big mirror. It’s so beautiful and an incredible place.
This book was very good for me. I read it, and felt nature and Earth was so magnificent. I couldn’t care less about my tiny troubles. And I want to feel in my body magnificent nature firsthand sometime. Thank you for reading!

It’s as long as bus. It has no teeth, so it only eats plankton and small shrimps. Have you ever known that whale has no teeth? I have known that it doesn’t have fish but I haven’t ever known that it has no teeth. That’s why it can’t eat fish and eats plankton and small shrimps. Two is grobe fish. Do you know how it makes its body big? It drinks lots of water and this makes its body big and round like a ball, its spines stand up. It knows that another fish can’t eat it so they don’t come near. Three is angler fish. It lives in deep water, where it’s very dark and cold, but it has a small light on its head. A small light on its head is like lantern. When small fish see the light, they think that it’s something that they can eat. When they swim near, the angler fish eats them. The looks and how to eat small fish are very fearful. At the second, I introduce you about danger. There are many dangers in ocean. The oil goes into the water, birds and other animals eat it and can kill them. Dirty water and chemicals from the toilets, factories, and farms also go into the oceans. They can kill plants, fish, birds, and other animals. We have to keep the ocean clean and safe. For example, it enacts a new law for ocean environment. Everybody all over the world have to enfact for oceans clean and safe, and hand over to future generations.

At first, I watched "Princess Mononoke" in the Ghibli movies for the first time. When I was in a child attending kindergarten. At that time, I couldn't in the least understand about this story because it was very difficult for little child. But I have watched this movie many times after I entered in the university and I still haven't be able to understand about this story. I thought that Ashitaka who is a heroine is very cool every time. Maybe I will be able to understand about this story when I would be more adult. Next, I watched "Whisper of the Heart", "Kiki's Delivery Service" and "LAPUTA: Castle in the Sky" when I was in a child attending kindergarten. "Whisper of the Heart" is a youthfulness movie of junior high school students. They are caught between dream and real, so they advance towards their own dreams. And it's mixed with love story as only as youthfulness movie. I feel happy and shy after I finish watching this movie. Next, "Kiki's Delivery Service" is a dreamy movie for me because a heroine of this movie is a witch. She stays unknown place to training and experiences various sufferings. Finally, she grows up as a full-fledged witch. I have watched this movie many times since I was in a child attending kindergarten. I have been bubbling until now when I watch it. I have been wanted to be a witch and fly by a broom in the sky until now. Next, "LAPUTA: Castle in the Sky" was a very fearful movie for me when I watched for the first time. Because the monster which appears on this movie is very fear, I have been felt fearful a little until now when I watched it alone. But I like this movie because my heart is warmed after I watch it. Lastly, I watched “Spirited away” with my parents in the movie theater when I was in the fourth grade of elementary school. At that time, a heroine of this movie and I are almost my age. So watching the movie, I felt myself as the heroine. This movie is wonderful amusing because I haven’t imagined the world ever. I feel like be an adult and impressed after I watch it. And I love background music on movies in Ghibli movies. All movies what I introduced above-mentioned movies are love and make me happy and relax. A composer is Joe Hisaishi. I respect him because he makes composed songs which makes people relax. When I’m tired and feel like crying, I always listen to music he composed. Next, I watched "Monsters, Inc." with my parents in the theater when I was in the fourth grade of elementary school. I remember that my mother was moved to tears when we watched it. Matters that is known about Mars now are the soil in there is very similar to the soils of near the volcano in Hawaii and water had existed at once time. Whether water had existed or not is a matter of whether creature had existed in Mars or not. And human who lives in the earth thinks that human ships to and makes them lived in there. In other words, it makes Mars to be the second earth. Because the earth will be surely collapse and vanish someday. I can’t believe this matter and I’m afraid of pass away myself and the earth vanish. Not to change the subject, I haven’t seen U.F.O ever. But I have some friends who have seen it. “Do you want to go back up and do another jump?”

This time, read a book about skydiving. A man who is blind challenges it in this story. I think that people who are blind skydive is about five times fearer than people who have eyesight. In my case, I never want to skydive because I’m a fear of heights. And I can’t ride a roller coaster because I’m afraid of a high place and a sentation like that lose my internal organs. So, I think people who like riding a roller coaster really wonderful. And I think that they have courage because they enjoy with fear. I can never enjoy with fear by riding a roller coaster. Roller coaster is similar to skydiving. So I can never skydive. But I think that it will be able to change a one’s view of the world be skydiving. If I would be skydiving, I would be able to have courage. I hesitate to go into action all conduction because I don’t have courage. I can’t go into action and have a lot of repentance for myself. I have a lot of repentance but I have lived for about twenty years yet. I think that my life will have a lot of repentance and trifling as I am now. I detest myself that get a case of the jitters to small matter. I want to change such as myself because this year I’m going to be twenty. Twenty is very good for and end. I want to challenge big something for me to part from myself that not have courage and not go into action and have a lot of repentance. Skydiving is very good event for it. BR 2-04: DANGER in the SNOW

There was just one thing to do. (P.8)

This time, I read a book about a polar bear and she struggle against the wolves to protect her two cubs. One day, they were playing in the snow and it was time to get them some food, so she jumped off the ice into the water. When she came out of the water, her cubs were gone and they were in danger. Six wolves were running towards them. The wolves would eat the cubs if they could. The polar bear had to make the wolves come after her struggle against. Finally, she overcame them and her cubs escaped without injury. This story is about love that a female parent protects her child. I think that the writer of this book wants to tell our readers unfathomable love parents have affection for their children. All animals have this love not only the polar bear in this book. In my case, my parents have been worried and loved me even now I’m going to be twenty in this month. I often think persistent and troublesome to them. If things don’t go well and I’m very tired, I take it out on them. But all the same they are gentle for me. My mother cooks breakfast, a packed lunch, dinner and clean in house and do the washing every day. She is very busy with household for family. And my father works every day for family and he doesn’t have holiday so much. But I give my family the cold shoulder. I’m so pathetic and they look like a child without the winning ways of children. They often talks about me when I was a little child recently. They often talk “Hinako was so cute at that time.” When I heard it, I have to be gentle and appreciate to them. This month, I’m going to be twenty and there is a coming-of –age celebration. At that time, I’m going to wear a long-sleeved kimono. My father bought it for me. I’m really happy daughter and appreciate him. And I have to be a grow-up in my personality. I really appreciate my family who brought up me.

BR 2-03: The Dragon and The Phoenix

It landed on the ground and became a shining lake. (P.24)

The story of this book was so interesting. The story is a legend in China. I don’t know whether the story was a story taken from real life because it is a legend. I like stories of early legend because I imagine the unknown world. The story of this book is concerning Dragon Mountain, Phoenix Mountain and shining lake. In short, a pearl lay on the sand and a dragon and a phoenix protected so valuable. Then a Queen of Heaven stole and they went to get back a pearl. But it fell down from the sky and it landed on the ground and became a shining lake. And the dragon and phoenix lay beside it. They have been existed as Dragon Mountain, Phoenix Mountain and a shining lake for thousands of years. I thought that this story was very mystic. If I go on a trip to China, I would like to visit and look at Dragon Mountain, Phoenix Mountain and a shining lake by all means. China has lots of legends and this time I read a number of them. This opportunity and I want to read many books of legend.
