BR 2-16: Machines Then and Now

About two million years ago people made stone axes with wooden handles. (P.4)

This time, I’m going to introduce everybody a book about machines. What machines do you use best every day? I use a Smart Phone best every day. Today our life depends on a lot of machines. I want to introduce everybody about histories of machines and now. One is Ramp. It is essential for our everyday life. The Ancient Egyptians used ramps to build pyramids more than 5,000 years ago. The Great Pyramid is 138 meters high and it is the biggest in the world. Two is Crane. The Ancient Greeks used big crane made of wood to build temples. They tried a rope to a block of stone. Three is Windmills. Windmills use energy from the wind. Hundreds of years ago people started using windmills to make flour. Today we use windmills to make electricity. Speaking of windmills, I imagine Holland. There is famous for windmill and turip. I have often watched them in TV and magazines but I want to see them firsthand. Four is Flying Machine. Do you like riding plane? I like it so much. Today we can fly all over the world by plane, but 200 years ago planes didin’t exist. In 1903 Wright brother invented the first plane made of wood and carried one person. The first flight only lasted for 12 seconds. Four years later a French inventor flew one of the first helicopters. He stayed in the air for about 20 seconds. I thought how deadful inventors experimented staying in the air. If the experiments would be unsuccessful, perhaps they fallen from the machine and died. It was the experiments of life and death. Five is television. What programs do you watch in TV every day? If there isn’t television in our life, a kind of our amusements lose. The first television only showed black and white images in 1926. Then 18 years later, inventors made a television that showed images in color. Today we can also watch DVDs and play a lot of games in TV and some modern televisions can be almost as thin as paper. How do you think that our life depends on a lot of machines? It is very comfortable, speedy, and interesting. Machines will develop and help our life in the future. But I think that look back upon and appreciate a lot of inventors who did the experiments of life and death. Thank you for reading!

BR 2-15: All About Plants

Scientists don’t know how many plants there are, but they think that there are more than 300,000 types! (P.4)

This time, I’m going to introduce everybody a book about plants. There are more than 300,000 types of plants in the world but scientists think that there are more plants that we don’t know about yet. Do you know that the first plants grew in the water more than two billion years ago? It took hundreds of million of years for plants to change and to grow on the ground. What seasons do you like the best? Now season is fall, and autumn colors of plants is very beautiful. The leaves change to yellow, orange, or red. And in winter, there are no leaves on most trees. In summer, plants make lots of food because there is lots of sunlight. And different plants have different habitats. Some plants need sun, and other plants need shade. Most plants can’t grow in very dry, cold, or wet places. But the cactus can grow in hot, dry places like deserts. Its roots are near the top of the ground so it can take in water quickly. There are many people who take cactus plants as a potted plant with beautiful leaves in houses. I want to try it after I read this book. Next, I want to introduce everybody two amazing plants. One is a Venus Flytrap. Most plants don’t need to eat insects, but the Venus Flytrap eats insects. Two is a Titan Arum. It is one of the smelliest plants in the world. Moreover it smells like bad meat so that the Titan Arum is the terrible smell. But I want to try smelling it.
Lastly, we have to save our plants. Our clothes, books, and many other things come from plants. Lots of our doors, chairs, and tables are made of wood. Sometimes there is plant plastic in our cell phones, computers, or even our socks. In the rainforest, people cut down trees, and Earth loses hundreds of different types of plant forever. As a result, pollution is another danger and it puts dangerous chemicals into the soil and these are bad for plants. We have to use paper carefully and use all the paper and recycle it. We have to struggle them in our life every day. Thank you for reading!

BR 2-14: Wonders of the past

Today, many tourists visit this amazing place. (P.13)

This time, I’m going to introduce everybody a book about some world heritages and histories. Have you ever gone to some world heritages? What world heritages do you want to see? I want to introduce everybody four wonders from this book.
One is Tutankhamun. Tutankhamun is known all over the world. But why is he so famous? He was a king in Egypt more than 3,300 years ago. When he died only 19 years old, people put a gold mask over his face and his face and put all three coffins in a tomb with food and many treasures. However no one discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb for a long time, then British archaeologist discovered it in 1922. There were about 3,500 treasures such as gold statues, boats, jewels, toys, masks, and even a gold bed. Tutankhamun became one of the most famous kings in the world.
Two is the Colosseum in Rome. Ancient Romans watched fights with gladiators and wild animals like lions, crocodiles, rhinos, and even elephants in this big and beautiful stadium. About 500,000 people and one million wild animals died there. I thought that Ancient Romans were so cruel after I read. The Colosseum was the most fantastic building and big enough for more than 50,000 people.
Three is Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Angkor Wat is a beautiful stone temple and was built about 800 years ago. About 50,000 people built the temple, and it took more than 37 years. They built it to look like the mountain where their gods lived. When people built Angkor Wat, they put water around the building to protect themselves from enemies and wild animals from the rainforest.
Lastly, four is the Taj mahal in India. It looks like a palace, but it’s one of the most beautiful tombs in the world. The Taj Mahal was built by about 20,000 people 400 years ago, and it took 22 years. There are gardens and fountains around the tomb where is made of 28 types of stone and jewels.
I want to visit the Colosseum more than anything else. I often watch it in TV but I want to watch it firsthand in Rome someday. What wonders do you feel in your body? Surely, I will change my view of the world if I can see some world heritages. Thank you for reading!

BR 2-13: Wonderful Water

People, animals, and plants need water. (P.23)

This time, I’m going to introduce everybody a book about water. About 70 percent of Earth is covered with water and about 3 percent of the water on Earth is fresh water. Do you know fresh water? Most of it is frozen from ice. Some of the fresh water is in lakes and rivers. Some of the fresh water is in the sky. It’s the clouds and the rain. Do you feel mysterious that water is in the sky? I feel so mysterious this fact and the clouds are made in water.
Next, the human body contains lots of water. Our body is about 70 percent water, our brain is about 85 percent water, and our bones are about 33 percent water. Have you ever known this fact? It is not too much to say that we are made of water. I realized once again that water is very important for the human body. We can live for four weeks without foods, but we can’t live without water. And we have to drink about eight glasses of water every day. Do you drink a suitable amount of water every day? I have heard that the human body becomes easy to lose weight if it drinks a lot of water. And our blood is about 50 percent water.
Lastly, people, animals, and plants need water. Do you know how much water we use every day? We use about 80 liters of water when we take a bath. We use about 27 liters of water when we take a shower. We drink water and cook with water and use water for washing. We need everything in the house with a lot of water. But when there is no water, rivers and lakes become dry. Plants can’t grow and animals can’t drink and die. And if there is no food and no water to drink, people die, too. And Earth could be annihilated without water. At the first, we have to save water at home. For example, turn off the water when it doesn’t use water. Take a shower, not take a bath. Collect rainwater to water plants. Don’t throw things into rivers and lakes. People have to clean water. If we don’t use water so much, it leads to water conservation. Thank you for reading!

BR 2-11: All About Ocean Life

The plankton lives near the top of the ocean because they need sunlight. (P.6)

This time, I’m going to introduce you a book about ocean. There are five oceans, and they cover about 70 percent of Earth. Do you go swimming in the sea in summer every year? Do you like fish? At the first, I introduce you about various fish. One is whale. Whales are ocean mammals. The blue whale is the biggest animal in the world and it can be more than 30 meters long. It’s as long as bus. It has no teeth, so it only eats plankton and small shrimps. Have you ever known that whale has no teeth? I have known that it doesn’t have fish but I haven’t ever known that it has no teeth. That’s why it can’t eat fish and eats plankton and small shrimps. Two is grobe fish. Do you know how it makes its body big? It drinks lots of water and this makes its body big and round like a ball, its spines stand up. It knows that another fish can’t eat it so they don’t come near. Three is angler fish. It lives in deep water, where it’s very dark and cold, but it has a small light on its head. A small light on its head is like lantern. When small fish see the light, they think that it’s something that they can eat. When they swim near, the angler fish eats them. The looks and how to eat small fish are very fearful. At the second, I introduce you about danger. There are many dangers in ocean. The oil goes into the water, birds and other animals eat it and can kill them. Dirty water and chemicals from the toilets, factories, and farms also go into the oceans. They can kill plants, fish, birds, and other animals. We have to keep the ocean clean and safe. For example, it enacts a new law for ocean environment. Everybody all over the world have to enfact for oceans clean and safe, and hand over to future generations.

BR 2-10: A New school

A cold wind blew in her face and tears filled her eyes. (P.19)

Are you in shy in front of strangers? How do you make friends? This time I’m going to introduce you a book about making friends and become familiar with a new school. How do you make friends when you enter a new school? In my case, I speak to nearby people for the time being. When I talk with, I’m always careful to keep smile. And I don’ talk only myself, I’m careful to ask. In this story, a sister called “Sunita” is in very shy in front of strangers and she can’t get along with her classmates. That’s why Sunita’s brother called “Ravi” has to look after her all day. This was very awful for him because he was holding hands with his baby sister. And he can’t play with his friends because she will be left alone. But one day, Ravi’s friend helped Sunita when she lost her way in the school. And she became familiar with a new school in good condition. I thought that Ravi is very good brother and he takes good care of his sister “Sunita”. When I have to adapt myself to my surroundings, off course I feel the strain, too. For example, a new school and a new my place of work. Before about three months, I began to a new part-time job. The first day and when I hadn’t became used to yet, I was very nervous and I wanted to go back early. But I was careful to keep smile for the time being and I answered promptly and clearly. Luckily, I became familiar with my place of work and all employees are very kind and gentle. My place of work is very easy to work and I am living a comfortable life. I think when it steps forward, everybody is terrified. Everybody is terrible coward. But it can’t begin nothing and grow up if it doesn’t step forward and challenge. I always want to grow up and graduate cowardly myself. That’s why I’m going to have a good go at it and live my life.
